| BRIEFS
VACANCIES Pauline Stallard and Yvonne Patterson have resigned from the Parish Council. Both were thanked for their contributions. At the time of writing (mid-July) two names were being considered for co-option. Present holders (see bottom of page overleaf) of the PC’s offices were re-elected at the annual meeting in late May. JUMPING LIGHTS Letter sent to Highways Agency expressing concern about number of motorists going through A465 pedestrian crossing on red. NORTHOLME CENTRE Letter sent to Hereford’s chief executive, Neil Pringle, requesting that the South Wye Foundation be given a written undertaking to transfer funds for the refurbishment of the building as a matter of urgency. ALL-WEATHER An impromptu poll at the May 24 meeting revealed eleven votes in favour (three against) of an all-weather surface for the playing field adjacent to the Northolme Road Centre. BUS SHELTER Installed in Abbotsmead Road with unprecedented rapidity. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Following a request on the point, there is no provision for the office of mayor for the parish of Belmont Rural within the order creating the parish. ADOPTION Roads in the Jennings development have now been adopted. However, the Persimmon Homes play area remains unadopted. As do roads in the Barratt and Westbury developments. NOW

Best
Front Garden competition ‘a credit to all’ on the estate Now in its third
year, the Belmont Best Front Garden competition, organised by Cllr Brian
Hubbard and judged in early July, attracted a record thirty entries. Co-sponsors
were Belmont Rural Parish Council and Belmont Lodge and Golf.

Elsewhere
in Belmont South Wye Community Association (which manages the Eastholme Community Centre). Highlights include a regular fitness group, a theatre and travel group, the Christmas Party and a visit from Father Christmas. Vandalism is still a problem, with 14 windows broken during the year. External lighting has been improved to alleviate this. South Wye Foundation (aiming to manage Northolme Centre). Draft lease now in acceptable formbut the transfer of £52,000 from Tesco, as part of their gaining permission for the store extension, has not yet been addressed. Mums and Tots Group. Now able to meet weekly following PC’s donation towards expenses. Between six and eighteen mums (and dads!) with tots attend. Special sessions organised. West Mercia
Police. The main change was the opening of the police station
in Goodrich Grove, now manned 4 - 8 pm on Wednesdays and 10 am - 2 pm
on other weekdays. |
