BELMONT
RURAL INFO Here are your councillors |
|
First, let's get the name straight. There's this word "parish". One meaning is the area ministered to by a vicar. But not in this case. For one thing there isn't a church in Belmont. Our parish is the smallest administrative unit within local government. In fact - at 1700 houses - we're quite a big parish. Nearby Aconbury has about four houses. Next, the name itself. A parish council administers certain functions within a parish. However, our parish council is not - as many thought and some still think - a rural parish council based in Belmont. Because there is no such such thing as a rural parish council. To be nigglingly precise we are a parish council administering a parish called Belmont Rural. We've tried to reflect the way the words are broken down in the logo at the top of the page and elsewhere in this website. Very dull but also very misunderstood. Belmont Rural parish council (note the subtle use use of capital and lower case letters) came into being in its own right in May 2000. Previously, it had been part of the adjacent Clehonger Parish Council. |
