BELMONT RURAL LETTERS

Pooling resources requires
careful strong management
I hesitate to respond to Andy Myatt's latest missive, acknowledging that I cannot compete with his sense of humour, but feel I must assist him a little further in his understanding of the facts.

Efficiency savings could be gained by pooling resources into a Herefordshire public services body but only if carefully and strongly managed. There is a fine balance between centralisation and still guaranteeing improved local front counter access; pooling a central resource and local office bases will indeed reduce the overall cost of each service currently maintaining numbers of central and outreach buildings and pro-rata staffing of them.

There are massive county benefits to be made when purchasing highways products but the use of them needs to be tightly managed. Thinking back to my childhood (a few years ago) when I was born and brought up on a Herefordshire farm, I never did see any flying pigs or cows jumping over the moon but I will keep a Parish Watch eye on Abbey View Park for Andy and his swine.
