BELMONT RURAL LETTERS

Clarification needed on cost cutting
I am glad that the police are reconsidering the closure of their Belmont services offered at the Waterfield Road police station, as brought to your readers' attention by Cllr. Edwards on this website.

May I ask for clarification of the following please? “Health, council, housing and policing services will all need to determine how they can collectively best serve the public through reducing overall costs”.

I suggest that the public is best served when the named agencies it supports (by council tax, national insurance, etc) actually maximize delivery of what they are paid for, rather than providing well paid jobs for life, index-linked salaries, subsidized pension schemes and early retirement opportunities for employees. The present position is completely out of step with economic reality.

Perhaps there is room for some cost cutting here?
