BELMONT RURAL LETTERS

Plea for plastic beautification
Though capping the Tesco mini-roundabout with concrete may be justified, if it is designed to prevent public spirited, volunteer gardeners from electrocuting themselves whilst undertaking their unofficial activities, it contributes nothing towards beautifying Belmont Rural. I recollect SHARP (And others. Website editor) planting copious daffodil bulbs on the main roundabout a few years ago. Can I be assured that SHARP members were not put at risk due to electrical cabling hazards and, if they were, can we expect this roundabout to be concreted over in the near future to prevent a similar exposure to electrocution?

Surely, as an alternative, the manager responsible for capping could have asked one of his colleagues, after taking advice from local councillors who were aware of public opinion, to spend a couple of hours sticking in a few authorised flowers to help with beautification.

Now the deed is done perhaps a few strategically drilled holes in the cap (not deep enough to reach the cabling I hasten to add) would support the stems of a variety of plastic flowers. These would be maintenance-free, eco-friendly, would supply a splash of much needed colour in the area and be fully in keeping with the aesthetic appeal of the concrete capping.
