BELMONT RURAL LETTERS

Concerned with local issues?
Why not try a PACT meeting.
I attended a PACT (Partners & Communities Together) for the first time on Monday, February 1 at Belmont Community Centre. PACT is run by Herefordshire Council, Herefordshire Association of Local Councils, and West Mercia Police, helping to find solutions to day-to-day issues for local people.

I was impressed by the number of official bodies present, which included two police officers and two enforcement officers from Herefordshire Council, and their presentations.

I attended in order to register a couple of concerns about the appearance of Belmont Road and the destruction of a number of grass verges in Belmont Rural parish by parking of vehicles. I have been pursuing this last issue through the PC for years. I discovered at the PACT meeting that the council does have powers to take action against those who vandalise council-owned verges. I hope that action will now be taken and damaged verges restored. If we wish to live in a pleasant environment, attract people who care and maintain the value of our properties, this matter is important.

The next PACT meeting is on Tuesday May 4. I encourage you to attend if there are local issues which concern you.
